Thomas Leebolt
Holding primary licensure from the United States Coast Guard (USCG) as a Master Upon Oceans and a Third Mate Unlimited, Thomas Leebolt possesses more than 30 years of maritime experience. During his years at sea, Leebolt also repaired and installed the full spectrum of nautical equipment, maintaining secondary licensure from the USCG as Chief Engineer of Unlimited Horsepower vessels and as an Unlimited Second Assistant Engineer. In addition to these credentials, he also holds certification in celestial navigation, bridge resource management, ocean diving, and state-of-the-art bridge equipment, including Automatic Radar Plotting Aid (ARPA) and the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS). Thomas Leebolt currently utilizes his maritime knowledge to provide an array of services to the yachting community in and around his hometown of Poway, California.
After starting his career as a Deckhand, Leebolt became Captain of the M/V Observer, a charter boat in Alaska, in 1988. He spent nearly a decade working exclusively on yachts before gaining exposure with other vessels. Thomas Leebolt next acted as the Master of both charter vessels and private yachts. Additionally, he traveled throughout the world for more than five years on various research vessels, including spending time as the Chief Engineer of oil supply vessels. Thomas Leebolt retired from the high seas in 2005 after amassing more than 3,750 days on the water totaling more than 995,000 miles.
Over the course of his career, Thomas Leebolt has had the opportunity to serve on vessels that ventured everywhere from the Panama Canal to the Mediterranean Sea. In order to stay current with his licenses as a Master and Chief Engineer, he rotated his duties at sea every two years. Throughout his time on the ocean, Thomas Leebolt maintained a strong rapport with his crew members.
