Sumayah Jamal, MD, spends much of her time researching conditions that afflict the skin of people of color. As founder and Director of Dermatology at Keris Dermatology in New York City, Dr. Jamal draws on years of research and clinical experience at her private practice to provide patients with the latest advances in the medical and cosmetic care of skin. The founder of the New York University (NYU) Langone Medical Center Ethnic Skin Clinic at Bellevue Hospital Center in New York, Sumayah Jamal, MD, has directed the facility since 2004. She maintains a particular interest in developing treatments for the specific skin-related challenges facing people of color. Additionally, she has spent many years investigating skin cancer and has dedicated much of her research to the study of melanoma, the most deadly type of the disease. Sumayah Jamal, MD, currently acts as a Research Assistant Professor of Microbiology at the NYU School of Medicine, where she earned her Doctor of Medicine and Doctor of Philosophy in 1994. In addition, Dr. Jamal completed a residency and postdoctoral fellowship focused on melanoma at NYU. Since 2006, she has held a position as Clinical Assistant Professor in the Ronald O. Perelman Department of Dermatology at NYU. She has also published a number of peer-reviewed research papers on topics such as skin cancer awareness in communities of color and ethnic dermatology.

Fluent in English and French, Sumayah Jamal, MD, is a native of New York City. After completing her undergraduate education at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, she returned to New York to attend NYU Medical School. She holds medical affiliations with NYU Langone Medical Center and Bellevue Hospital Center.
